Small Groups
As reflected in our Purpose and Core Values, this ministry is built around small (6-10 member) 'cell' groups meeting every other week in the homes of members who volunteer. They're called cells because like human cells they get larger and then split up and continue a process of multiplication.
These small groups (centered on praise and prayer, relevant Bible discussion, sharing and concern for others) help each person to feel rooted, not only in God's practical principles for living but also in a group which cares in concrete ways, for each other and for those outside the cell. Besides our mixed groups (couples, singles) there are additional 'young moms' groups that meet during the day (children expected!)
Let's face it...each of us is "broken" to a degree and community life is fractured in various ways...life is changing fast, values seem up in the air, and we need stability and greater wholeness. Cell groups help us meet these challenges:
-
Knowing that we're loved, accepted, listened to
-
A greater sense of meaning and purpose
-
Solid Biblical principles to live successfully
-
Folks who really care about us and for whom we can care
-
Concrete help for our families and our communities
You do not need to have previous knowledge of the Bible to participate, nor be a member of Crossroads Community. Additionally no one is put on the spot to answer a question, made to pray and share or made to feel uncomfortable in any way. You participate as you deem appropriate. The atmosphere is very accepting!
A typical cell group opens with gathering around some coffee, dessert and talk about our week. Perhaps a couple of songs are sung - depending on the group. the leader prays and the discussion time begins. It might be on a theme or topic selected by the particular group, or on a particular Bible book...the individual group selects their own material to discuss. But whatever subject is chosen, the Bible is foundational as we interact with it and our various ideas, experiences and diversity, learning also from one another. Then there is a time of sharing items for which we want to thank God or request prayer. Short "sentence" prayers are begun by the leader with members participating as they feel led. Again, no one is forced to pray.
There are several existing cells meeting in various geographical areas and new ones can be started anytime.
